GM604 may help keep motor neurons healthy in people with ALS by boosting production of substances that promote their survival and growth. A hexapeptide derived from motoneuronotrophic factor (MNTF), GM604 is also being investigated in the clinic as a potential treatment for Parkinson's disease and stroke.
Prolonged stress in motor neurons may lead to or contribute to ALS. An inhibitor of PKR-like kinase (PERK), upregulated during stress, GSK2606414 may help reduce motor neuron loss in some people with ALS by reducing accumulation of TDP-43 and by enabling production of essential substances.
